We are located in Boquete (the valley of flowers), in the highlands of Panama's western-most province, Chiriqui, adjoining Costa Rica. Our privileged location in El Santuario's plateau offers ample panoramic views of the Baru Volcano (11,400 ft. The environment is safe, natural, quiet and cool, with temperatures ranging from 60ºF to 80ºF (15.5ºC to 26ºC) all year round, at an altitude of 4,000 ft. (1,212 meters) above sea level. The district of Boquete has four different "life zones", and enjoys one of the highest concentrations of bird and orchid species in the world. Nestled on El Santuario´s plateau in Boquete, you’ll find our Hotel Villa Marita.  Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the 10,000 ft. Volcano Baru, surrounding mountains and coffee farms from large bay windows in your cottage. Our seven cottages have a bedroom, living room, closet and bathroom with hot water 24 hours. The walls are covered with local fine hardwoods, with glass panelled French style windows. Take in the same view from the terrace of Villa Marita´s main building as you enjoy delicious home cooked meals or just sip one of Boquete´s gourmet coffees. This social area is exclusive for guests, consisting of a lounge or meeting area, restaurant-bar, terrace, and sanitary facilities. This area can be adapted for seminars, business and group meetings, special events, always in an exclusive fashion. The De La Ossa Family established Dolphin Lodge the 25th of January 1992.

Today, the lodge is managed by Mariela De La Ossa, one of the daughters of Jeronimo and Mariela. She improved the quality of the service, as well as the administration of the lodge. Some of the changes Mariela has made have been: Each cabin has its own private bathroom and The Bohio Restaurant has been totally remodelled, providing much more space for your comfort. She has also organised nature oriented tours for ecological research, as part of the visitors' itineraries.
Besides changes and innovations, Mariela established the Uaguitupu Foundation, a non - profit foundation, represented by her brothers and sister, people from the community and some good friends, interested in the development of the Kuna communities.

The Uaguitupu Foundation was created to improve the Kuna lifestyle in the social, cultural and economic aspects, to promote their intellectual capacity.

WITH YOUR VISIT TO DOLPHIN LODGE YOU ARE DONATING TO THE UAGUITUPU FOUNDATION.

Dolphin Island Lodge is located on Uaguitupo Island, a private Island directly across from the Kuna Island Community of Achutupo, approximately 50 minutes flying from Panama City.

Upon arrival, clients will be met at Achutupu Terminal, then transferred to the Lodge by a motorise dugout canoe, located at one quarter mile and five minutes from the beach.

After settling in, breakfast will be served at the bohio dinning room. Lunch and dinner will feature delicious seafood of the area. The Lodge has 9 cabins built with a touch of Kuna style. All equipped with comfortable queen sized beds, outside fresh water showers and toilets. Power is generated from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. A small court in the centre of the Lodge for volleyball or a BBQ during the summertime, are some of the activities we have to offer.

During the morning you can relax, take a nap to recover form the early departure o lay in one of the hammocks tied between the palm trees and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful spot.

Otherwise you will depart by motorised dugout canoe for a short 3 minutes trip across the water to Achutupo for a conducted tour of this Island settlement to observe the Kuna life style, culture and if so inclined to purchase the famous Kuna textile panels known as the Mola and other handicrafts. After the walking tour, guests, return to the Lodge which is followed by lunch. Also, visits to neighbouring beaches are programmed in the packages.

SUGGESTIONS

Personal items, swimming suit, light cotton clothes, walking shoes, sandals, insect repellent, camera, money in small bills, flash light, binoculars. To avoid problems for the management of the lodge with the local Chieftains of Achutupo and Kuna Yala in general, guests are asked to follow a few guidelines during their visit as follows:

BATHING ATTIRE
Guest are cautioned that the Kunas, who are very modest people, do not appreciate nude bathing or even the wearing of Bikini type bathing suits, Women are requested to wear one piece suits, or if a bikini is all they have, to please cover up with a towel when out of the water.

ALCOHOL BEVERAGES
Cold soft drinks and beer are for sale from the lodge kitchen at reasonable prices. Guests can also bring their own bottled of wine which can be cooled in the lodge refrigerator. Other than this, the Management strongly discourages the bringing of hard liquor to the lodge. One of the restrictions of the Kuna Culture is that there is no drinking of alcohol in the island settlements except on ceremonial occasions which take place at specific short periods only several times of the year. Drinking at other times is subject to severe sanctions.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Camera bugs can take all the pictures (including videos and films) they want in the lodge are of Uaguitupu Island including individual or group pictures of the lodge staff in their Kuna garb. However, during visits to the islands of Achutupu and Ailigandi, permission should be obtained first, prior to taking a photo of an individual Kuna man of woman or a group close - up. Also a tip of $0.25 to $0.50 per photo should be passed to the person photographed. The only exception to this tipping policy would be in the case you purchased a Mola or other handicraft item form a Kuna and then asked to take her a picture.

UNAUTHORIZED ACRTIVITIES
Such as hikes on the mainland, visits to other island settlements near Achutupu such as Mamitupu and Ustupu, should be consulted first.

THE POTABLE WATER
At the lodge comes form far up a nearby river and is them treated with chlorine. We had over 1000 guests the year that the lodge was opened and to our knowledge no one has become sick from the water which is perfectly drinkable. However, the lodge does have bottled water for sale for those who psychologically will feel better drinking bottled water.

Among our activities there will be cultural tours to different indigenous communities like Ailigandi, located 35 minutes from the cabins, snorkelling, or visiting neighbouring beaches where you can bathe in crystal clear waters or do artisan fishing.

A visit to the Kuna Cementery in Achutupo, where you will learn more about their morning rituals.
